Ray Lanich knew at an early age that music was his destiny. He received his first guitar for his tenth birthday, and in less than four years, he was performing professionally.
Throughout high school, Lanich played in several bands around his hometown of Erie, Pennsylvania. One group, an Aerosmith tribute band, received the attention of the producers of the VH1 show Fanclub. They sent a crew to Ray's high school to film a concert that Ray and his band put on for the entire student body and staff.
After high school, Lanich studied classical guitar and music at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. Despite a grueling practice and class schedule, Lanich continued to perform live and record his original music. In 2003, he released his first solo EP that received airplay on Rocket 101's Homegrown - hosted by famed Erie DJ, Sammy Stone. Ray also fronted a band called Counter Pointe who played regional shows and in 2004, took third place in the Van's Warped Tour Battle of the Bands in Buffalo, New York.
After graduating from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2005, Ray continued to pursue his passion for music and in August of 2008, he released his first solo full-length album I'll Play a Song for You produced by Ray and his brother Matt. Ray performed all of the vocals and instruments, and songs from the album have had airplay on various college and commercial radio stations across western Pennsylvania and Ohio. To support I'll Play a Song for You, Ray embarked on a regional tour and performed solo acoustic shows in Erie, PA; Edinboro, PA; Cambridge Springs, PA; Meadville, PA; Franklin, PA; Clarion, PA; Grove City, PA; Indiana, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH; Toledo, OH; Buffalo, NY; and New York, NY. In January of 2012, the Lanich brothers produced and released Ray's sophomore album At Least I'm Moving and Ray is currently putting together a tour to support this album as well.
Ray has been a guest on Backstage Pass hosted by Jenna Wagner on WMVL Cool 101.7 FM in Meadville, Fazed Cookies hosted by Michael on WERG 90.5 FM - Erie's Rock Alternative, Lovely and Layla in the Morning hosted by Elora Walsh and Ryan Loverick on WCUC "The Clutch" 91.7 FM in Clarion, Local Limelight hosted by Bobby Hogue on WIUP 90.1 FM in Indiana, and on WXUT 88.3 FM Toledo - hosted by Victoria Lee.
Ray has been featured in articles printed in The Erie Times-News (Erie, PA), ERI Jams Online Magazine (Erie, PA), Rockerie.com (Erie, PA), The Allied News (Grove City, PA), The Clarion Call (Clarion, PA), The Penn (Indiana, PA) and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity's Sinfonia Resonance.
Currently, Ray Lanich lives outside of Pittsburgh, PA with his fiance and continues to write and perform his own music. He acts as his own manager, booking agent, PR, and record label. After singing "The National Anthem" at the Erie Bayfront Convention Center, Ray was asked what his goal was in the music industry. Ray laughed and said, "I don't want to be famous - just known."
